Mounted Archery Lessons
With Celeste Oshinsky & Creek Side Horse Park
WHAT IS MOUNTED ARCHERY?
The sport of mounted archery has been growing, with competitions starting to appear around the globe. The rules and setup often differ depending on where you are in the world, but the general concepts stay the same.
There is typically a designated track that the mounted archer must follow. Along the track, targets are setup on the side at a specified distance from the track. These targets are often setup at various angles so that the archer has to shoot facing forward, sideways, or backwards. Scores are given based on where the archer hits the target with their arrows. Some competitions also award bonus points based on how quickly they clear the track.
Lessons for New & Experienced Shooters
New to Mounted Archery
If you’ve never done mounted archery, we’ll get your started!
We’ll start on the ground and go over the equipment used in mounted archery. Its different than traditional archery, so we’ll start here even if you have some archery experience already.
From there, we’ll cover how to load the bow, draw, aim, and release. You’ll be hitting the targets in no time! Then we’ll have you step it up a notch and walk (and maybe even run!) down the track to practice shooting while moving.
Then, it’s time to get on our horses and apply everything you’ve learned!
Previous Mounted Archery Experience
For those who’ve learned the basics of load, draw, aim, and release — we’ll start building on those foundations.
Specifically what we cover will depend on where you’re at in your mounted archery journey, but lesson topics could include:
- Proper technique and form to help with consistency
- Sighting and mental techniques to help with accuracy
- Loading and drawing techniques to help with speed
We’ll start on the ground to focus on the techniques and concepts, and then saddle up the horses to practice applying them when mounted.

Meet the Instructor
Growing up with an interest in the Medieval Ages as well as loving characters like Green Arrow (DC Comics), Hawkeye (Marvel Comics), and Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games), Celeste picked up a bow an arrow as soon as she was old enough to be allowed on the range.
In addition to participating in mounted archery competitions, she is also a member of the Ohio Archers Association and competes in various archery competitions with participants from all over the state.
Meet the Host
Creek Side Horse Park is a 450 acre facility offering a 300 meter mounted archery track, certified obstacle course, 120×180 outdoor arena, and private trails. Sign up for one of our events or come on one of our open days to experience the park!
The parking is endless here! Currently all camping is primitive, but you are allowed to run generators. We have tie lines available at the campsites as well as a few open air stalls. There are also very nice areas that will accommodate corrals as long as they are safe. There is water in camp for your horses.
